If money is a real issue here, I suppose you can use it better than the developers. Because of these reasons, I'm honestly sorry to say I have refunded Firewatch. I should reiterate though, I do believe this game worth playing and I certainly enjoyed my time with it.Īs a stay at home dad, monetary value is VERY important to me. Unfortunately I believe this mechanic to be largely wasted: the radio only remains silent for a few seconds before going back to normal and neither character mentions it again. I thought there was a deeper dialogue system going on and I had to choose my words wisely or else I could make an enemy of Delilah, even if the game ended in the same way. I was so excited when I said something and I got the "Delilah is annoyed and stepped away" notification. The dialogue choices are the most interactive element (and many are even timed to put the pressure on!) and they don't impact the game at all. The only disappointment I had was, since I didn't know anything about the game beforehand, that I thought they were going to do a lot more with the dialogue system. It's short yes, but it was a very enjoyable experience. I fully explored this game and got all the achievements in a single playthrough which took 3 hours. It might seem petty, but with my situation, how $5 is spent actually matters.īecause of these reasons, I'm honestly sorry to say I have refunded Firewatch. Had I gotten 5-7 hours out of it, my opinion would be entirely different. While I appreciate the art and storytelling, it doesn't make up for the extremely short experience. I've spent the last 3 days thinking about this. I don't mean to downplay these things, but (IMO) the game is over long before you get your money's worth. Obviously, a lot of hard work went into making the game. We can even talk about fair pay for developers. We can discuss quality over quantity all day. Frankly, I'd be furious if I had payed full price. Even at the $5 sale price, I'm left extremely disappointed. Having said that, 112 minutes for a playthrough of a game, with almost zero replay value, is FAR too short. Because of these reasons, Firewatch ranks highly among my favored games. Gameplay was simple to learn and enjoyable. Voice acting was off the charts! The artwork and environments were stunning. ![]() As a stay at home dad, monetary value is VERY important to me. I read the reviews, and knew that it was a short game I was expecting around 5-7 hours of play. I've been eyeballing Firewatch for awhile now, and I finally got the game on the Steam Summer Sale for $4.99.
